Kiasmos is made up of Icelandic BAFTA-winning composer Ólafur Arnalds, known for his unique blend of minimal piano and string compositions with electronic sounds, and Janus Rasmussen from the Faroe Islands, known as the mastermind of the electro-pop outfit Bloodgroup. Based in Reykjavík, Arnalds used to work as a sound engineer, often for Rasmussen’s other projects, where the two musicians discovered their common love for minimal, experimental music. Before their gig in Lyon, France, we asked them to share their best and intimate favorite places in their current hometown, Reykjavík.

What’s to do in the summer when everyone’s gone?

On the days when it happens to be sunny, everybody goes to Austurvöllur square. People just sit on the grass, drink beer, play music or just hang out with their friends/family. It’s a pretty small square but everyone loves going there.

What’s the collective’s HQ when it comes to drinks?

Bar Ananas is a great place to go for drinks. The vibes are very chill and the music is pretty varied and good. It’s a nice little tiki bar in the heart of cold little Reykjavík.

Where can you find the best records in town?

Lucky Records.

What can you do for a first date?

A trip to the museum and a dinner at Nafnlausi Pizza sounds like a good plan to me. Maybe a walk through Hljómskálagarðurinn park. Yes? Is it good? We don’t really date in Iceland…

Where can you lose your dignity?

Paloma Bar at 04:00 AM

A good address for brunch?

Grái Kötturinn is a local favourite.

The best plan to chill on a Sunday?

Vesturbæjarlaug swimming pool.

Best view of the town?

I hear the view from Hallgrímskirkja church tower is beautiful. I haven’t been there myself yet! Must do something about that.

What do you miss the most?

My old favourite evening hangout/brunch place 10 Dropar :’(

A local product?
