Craig Richards is collaborating with the creative team behind Gottwood to bring new art and music festival Houghton to Norfolk in 2017.
Using his connections made during a 17 year long residency at legendary club Fabric, Craig has curated a line-up featuring artists he believes in. Artists he has chosen on merit. “Chefs not waiters”.
Already lined up for the first edition, taking place in the grounds of Houghton Hall August 11-13, is the UK debut of VILOD (the live collaborative project between Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer). Long-time Fabric affiliate Howie B will also play live with Borgar Magnason and DJs already lined up include Nicolas Jaar, Andrew Weatherall, Ben UFO, Ivan Smagghe, Midland, Nightmares On Wax, Sonja Moonear and Roman Flügel.
Deviating from the majority of UK based festival these days a key feature so far is the promise of extended sets on world class sound systems, with a heavy inclination towards spontaneous back to back sets.
The festival site will be set around the lake and woodlands surrounding the stately Houghton Hall, with festival areas set to include an abandoned warehouse, subterranean bowl and a world renowned art and sculpture park. Houghton will have an extended license (another uncommon feature seen in today’s boutique festivals) allowing for morning programming, something Craig sees as a very exciting possibility. When asked about the line-up he said “The curation will be based on my heart not commerce”.
