If you’re reading this, that means you survived the Great British Blizzard of 2017. Firstly, congratulations. You may have stayed inside the entire time and posted an excessive amount of ‘It’s so cold’ status updates, but we’re proud of you. Secondly, you’re probably feeling like you’ve absolutely earned a holiday in the sun for braving what scientists are calling ‘an extremely mild winter’.
Fortunately for you, very soon the creative minds behind Amsterdam’s summer institution Dekmantel will be opening the doors on their first Southern Hemisphere expedition – Dekmantel São Paulo.
Taking place over 4th – 5th February the festival sees the return of tried and tested Dekmantel regulars such as Nicolas Jaar (who plays live), and talented newcomers, but also welcomes a selection of local talent, including legendary multi-instrumentalist and producer Hermeto Pascoal, from their partnership with local partner Gop Tun.
Considered by some to be masters of programming, they’ll bring the likes of Hunee, Moodymann, Shanti Celeste and Awesome Tapes From Africa to the daytime proceedings, held in The Jockey Club – a historic hippodrome in the Western part of the city. The night program goes darker with Ben Klock and DVS1 playing in an industrial warehouse sited in the district of Brás.
