Everyday, artistic directors are working hard to curate the best line-ups, to create programmations bringing out the best of the electronic music scene. But what are they really listening to? We’ve asked our favorite labels and promoters to send us what they’ve got in their bag.
Party crew and more recently music label, Unleash is turning 5 next week-end. We thought it was a good occasion to bring you deep inside their musical universe and atmosphere. Here is their selection : 7 tracks from house classics to finest minimal sounds. Enjoy the ride!
1- Herbert – Shuffler
This track from 1996 was the most obvious choice in our selection. After playing it on repeat in our office for the past 6 months, it had to be part of it. The raw bassline and subtle melody is everything you want in a Herbert track.
2-Adam Strömstedt & Alan Delius – B1 Blame It On Skavsta (JYC-007)
There are very few releases by the two Swedish producers, not more than 5 in total and this one on Mr Trophat’s Junk Yard label is, according to us, the best by far. A classic Deep minimal house cut with wonky basslines and an array of percussions that will make you lose it on a dancefloor.
3-Varhat – Khu
Varhat is one the young talents emerging out the French Minimal House scene, with some outstanding releases as well as the creation of various white labels and Yoyaku Distribution. He will be joining us for our 5th Birthday on October 1st at Studio Spaces, seeing him perform will be a true honor.
4- Callisto – Need Ur Love (Stalactite Mix)
With many of his work being released in the late 90’s as well as this particular track sounding just like what a perfect house record would sound like today, it is simple to say that Callisto was one of the rare house producers who was way ahead of his time. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2013 and left us only with a handful of records. Including him in the selection is a small way to pay tribute to one of the sickest producers there was.
5-Len Lewis – Liquid Acid
Len Lewis’s Liquid Acid came out in 1998 on Swag Records which had many dope artists release on such as Omni AM, Jay Tripwire or even the mighty Terry Francis. This record is pure bliss, a mix between minimal, drum n bass and acid! The B side’s Edge of life is much more dance floor oriented with a strong 4 to the floor slash break beat and trippy vocals.
6-Soul Capsule – Overcome
Very often overlooked by the B side aka “Lady Science”. Overcome can also take its fair share of success. If you never flipped the record around you should do so immediately as this record to us is all about the A side.
7- C.S.R. – Conflits De Canards
Our last choice is a rather obvious one. The news has somehow traveled fast and its no secret that Cesar Merveille will be releasing the first Unleash Music record. After 2 releases on his much-awaited Roche Madame label, Cesar is well and truly back in the minimal business with some solid work. We are delighted to have him on board for a 2 track EP which will be released somewhere in the next 6 months. He will also be part of our 5th Birthday celebration alongside fellow artists and friends Pedro, Fumiya Tanaka, Thomas Melchior, Baby Ford, Djulz, Cab Drivers, Audio Werner and many more.
