Since it’s creation in 2013, 22a has showcases emerging, underground UK talent. Usually known for focusing on London bread producers such as Mo Kolours, Al Dobson Jr and founder Tenderlonious they seem to now have extended their selection to the french talent Neue Grafik. Located in Paris, Neue Grafik represents a generation of artists at the forefront of electronic music. His latest EP ‘Soul Conspiracy’ invites the listener to explore a fusion of live and programmed electronic music.
22a are known as one of London’s finest jazzy, hip-hoppy, roots-y collaborative labels, listeners have been admiring since 2013 with the likes of Tenderlonious and Jeen Bassan on their roster. Their next project sees them reach across the channel, collaborating with Neue Grafik of Paris to produce a six track EP released on April 28th. It’s being pressed on a limited 12” 180g vinyl release, as well as mp3, FLAC etc.
Until then we have two tracks to provide us with a sense of what grooves we can expect. The first, “Modern Man“, is the kind of contemporary jazz inspired piece that listeners have come to expect from the label, seeing live drums contrast with programmed electronic elements in a thoughtful and romantic way.
The second track, “We Are Good“, features previous collaborator Wayne Snow (Witches, 2016). It stands out, beginning with a jittery low-fi drum pattern, which is paired with Snow’s warm, soulful vocals to create a contemporary contrast. As chords come to fruition the listener gets a real insight into what Neue Grafik are offering from their music; meaningful jazz inspired productions with a modern hip-hop twist – a no-brainer for 22a to pick up on this French talent.
