Shura – Touch (Four Tet Remix) [Polydor]
Back this week with some excellent material from the ever-incredible Four Tet. This remix has an inevitable groove to it, perfectly magnified by the voice of Manchester’s own Shura. While the whole thing has a cheesy Majestic Casual feel to it, Four Tet raises the bar with his lovely sense of rhythm and his taste for bubbly synths. N°10 in my team.
Ebony – Against All Odds [Unreleased]
We already met Ebony after the song they released with Bicep some time ago. XLR8R brings the Toronto duo back this week with a power house T-U-N-E, pleasantly reminiscent of the Detroit first wave. So bouncy I’m still shaking my head, but more importantly, this gem of a track is only the teaser for their next release on Jericho One…Overkill, much?
Randomer – Concierge [Clone]
Who knew that dark industrial techno could be goofy? Randomer comes back on Dutch label Clone and fuels their Basement Series with some jumpy, ultra-violent material only he has the secret of. Yet, somehow, it sounds amazingly fun – which is not a term I would usually associate with industrial techno…
Låpsley – Love is Blind (Sam Gellaitry Remix) [XL]
Brand new XL prodigy Låpsley recently stole the scene with a unique voice and intonations full of character. Combine this with Soulection prodigy Sam Gellaitry: the association itself is mind-blowing…and so bloody avant-garde they released a summer anthem in March. Guaranteed smile after this one!
Contours – Eyes Down [Rhythm Section]
If chilled house had a child with breakbeat while hip-hop was holding the camera, they would probably give birth to this cross-genre marvel. This track is not new, but was recently reposted on SoundCloud, and reminds us that Peckham-based label Rhythm Section is more than ever worth keeping an eye on. Kudos to Contours, and see you next time!
